Philips DiamondClean 300 Series Toothbrush

Have you ever thought to connect your toothbrush to your laptop?

To recharge? No! Then what follows will captivate you! I tested the latest Philips Sonicare DiamondClean 300 Series.

Classy, all dressed in black, with different brushing mode that appear discreetly on the sleeve. I am a visual and enjoy design in all its forms. Beautiful object easy to use with good ergonomics.

First I thought the glass of the Sonicare was to rinse the mouth. No – read the instructions! The glass is used to charge the toothbrush only. Do I need adding that my family team which assisted me (I hate reading manuals alone), was equally baffled (LOL!).

But what really cracked me is the USB port that allows to connect the elegant box of the toothbrush, to a computer for charging when you’re on a trip. So chic!

Nomadic geek toothbrush

Yep we could use batteries or plug it into an outlet (boring). But why? Why when you can connect it to your computer? I love the concept!

I took my Sonicare on press trips. No need to mention that we became inseparable … yes like in ads! I’m a kind of traveler that packs light and ultra compact, while taking a lot of things (especially to prepare my look books)!

The Sonicare is featherweight and has excellent battery life. And its ergonomic lightweight box easily fits in a suitcase or handbag of a “real” girl (tote or shopping bag, the “changing” bag following us all day, not miniature clutch of the latest fashionista!).

I’m not going to make it long about the different brushing modes: same principle than for all electric toothbrushes! After according to each one’s needs, you choose whether to use the “Polish” or “Clean” mode etc …

BEAUTY, HOW TO PREPARE YOUR TRAVEL & DESTINATIONS

Cologne, Germany: The Belgian Quarter, Belgisches Viertel

I’ve never thought of Cologne

as a trendy destination to spend a weekend if Thalys was not invited me to the event Le Bloc in the Belgian Quarter, the hipster Babel with the streets names: Brüsseler Str., Antwerpener Str. and Genter Str.!

I arrive in Cologne with an incredible blue sky, blazing sun and 30°! The station is opposite the famous Cathedral (massive). And the Belgian Quarter is 10 minutes by taxi, about 20 minute walk or 2 metro stations.

Here Pharrell could have filmed a sequence shot of Happy!

It feels good instantly, arty atmosphere (without attitude) and smiling people. I walk from one designer shop to another, when I find a pastry with amazing couture cakes (picture 7, N°2).

I also notice shops with well known brands such as Marimekko (picture above), flea markets and welcoming shaded terraces (I do like!). And quite unusual for me, people walk with their beer in hand day and night.

Le block has highlighted designers for seven years.

This event focuses on  fashion, design and music in Cologne. This year among the special guests: Conni Kaminski from Brussels and Toos Franken from Antwerp.

After the fashion shows, invited by the Flandern, we head towards Franz, a very nice small restaurant (picture below, Nos. 1 & 2), featuring an assortment of flammekueches with extra fine paste and varied flavors (salmon, goat-zucchini …). Plus an exclusive live of the beautiful Mariama, a German folk singer living in Paris who plays for us only! Then Conni joined us.

Around midnight, the streets are crowded (pictured below, No. 3, a wood bar). Happy vibe, people talk and drink next to the bar. We choose an outdoor bar at random. After several cocktails, a diet coke for me and more giggles, I collapsed on my bed at 3am!

My tip : Book your hotel in the Belgian Quarter if you like to go out at night. There are many nice bars and small restaurants. Walking distances: you can do everything on foot in the neighborhood.

Breakfast overlooking the ocean

at the Atlântico restaurant: exhilarating (picture 1)! Around 10 am, the sun is already pretty strong and the day before we were afraid it would rain! The green garden bordering the coast, draws perfectly on the ocean blue.

The view is stunning: picture 2, taken at the Ocean restaurant, the ocean view is quite similar to the terrace of the Atlântico! Every day we choose a new table at breakfast with a different view of the ocean.

The buffet of the Atlântico restaurant is varied: excellent fresh fruits bursting with sunshine, with a friendly discreet service. Photos 2, 3 and 4: Ocean, the famous gourmet restaurant with two Michelin stars! Photo 2: Empty wine decanters, like in an alchemist’s lair … Photo 3: A giant Fabergé egg in malachite!

The best fish in the world

I dreamed of a great fish to change (LOL!). We dine “casual chic” in Adega, the restaurant of Portuguese specialties. Discovering my huge dish, I am impressed by the size of the fish (picture above and on the last picture of this article : photo 1, the terrasse of Adega)!

I learned that chefs of gourmet restaurants in London and New York charter aircraft with fish caught in the area the same day. This year, the fish of the Algarve have received the title of best fish in the world.

I’m not a foodie, but I can appreciate some great ingredients: my fish is excellent! As a starter, I chose delicious shrimps! A kind of proteins orgy : )

Do you know the Portuguese Pétrus?

No, this is not a Madeira wine, but a grand cru of Douro, North of Portugal: the Barca Velha (picture above).

At seven meters under ground (the adventure begins!), we meet the sommelier José Figueirinha for a private tour of the Vila Vita Parc wine cellar. Exceptional cellar in Portugal, with an average of 11,000 bottles (pictures below 2 & 3).

Many great Portuguese and French wines (including Château Latour), but also Italian, Spanish or South African wines … And a room especially dedicated to Porto Vintage.
