Hillside Beach Club, Turkey: Watersports And Beach Party

I need to move, don’t you?

I love beach, but soon I need to walk, swim, dive (a must), surf (no comment, lol) …! Well to enjoy sports related with water: the only ones sports that really interest me at the seaside!

Here at the Hillside Beach Club, I started with the best: diving of course! Followed by a fast catamaran initiation: I haven’t done it for ages (picture 1)! Awesome when you can take the speed!

I regret not having had time to do a bit of water skiing. The facilities are new and the location is stunning: the pontoon is down a hillside (pictures 2, 3 & 4).

After sports, beach party!

No, I won’t play the jaded! It’s fun. A touch of Daft Punk, Pharrell and Azealia (Banks) mixed with stars in the sky, ephemeral bar on the beach, cool people and the sea, the sea, the sea … Good vibes!

Bye bye beach bar, we head to Le Pacha whose the small disco is desert tonight! Too bad, excellent extended remix of a song of Azealia (again!). Seriously I’m more into strawberries and almonds than alcohols (picture below)!

People prefer staying outside and chatting in comfortable white seats, along with a soup! Apparently it is a late evening habit in Turkey, just before going home. Around 1 am, I left the small team, to collapse in my bed! Tomorrow will be beach?

Cologne, Germany: The Belgian Quarter, Belgisches Viertel

I’ve never thought of Cologne

as a trendy destination to spend a weekend if Thalys was not invited me to the event Le Bloc in the Belgian Quarter, the hipster Babel with the streets names: Brüsseler Str., Antwerpener Str. and Genter Str.!

I arrive in Cologne with an incredible blue sky, blazing sun and 30°! The station is opposite the famous Cathedral (massive). And the Belgian Quarter is 10 minutes by taxi, about 20 minute walk or 2 metro stations.

Here Pharrell could have filmed a sequence shot of Happy!

It feels good instantly, arty atmosphere (without attitude) and smiling people. I walk from one designer shop to another, when I find a pastry with amazing couture cakes (picture 7, N°2).

I also notice shops with well known brands such as Marimekko (picture above), flea markets and welcoming shaded terraces (I do like!). And quite unusual for me, people walk with their beer in hand day and night.

Le block has highlighted designers for seven years.

This event focuses on  fashion, design and music in Cologne. This year among the special guests: Conni Kaminski from Brussels and Toos Franken from Antwerp.

After the fashion shows, invited by the Flandern, we head towards Franz, a very nice small restaurant (picture below, Nos. 1 & 2), featuring an assortment of flammekueches with extra fine paste and varied flavors (salmon, goat-zucchini …). Plus an exclusive live of the beautiful Mariama, a German folk singer living in Paris who plays for us only! Then Conni joined us.

Around midnight, the streets are crowded (pictured below, No. 3, a wood bar). Happy vibe, people talk and drink next to the bar. We choose an outdoor bar at random. After several cocktails, a diet coke for me and more giggles, I collapsed on my bed at 3am!

My tip : Book your hotel in the Belgian Quarter if you like to go out at night. There are many nice bars and small restaurants. Walking distances: you can do everything on foot in the neighborhood.

Tokyo, Japan: Traditional Music in Mejiro

TOKYO CITY GUIDE : CULTURE / MUSIC

Toyo-Japan-Traditional Music in Mejiro-2-Photo Mademoiselle Le K-copyright 2014

Lost in the Mejiro small streets

where live aristocrates, I hear the sound. Through a narrow window, the frame of a distant green kimono surrounded by red, amphitheater. Shyly we get in, I take my shoes off to surf to a bunch, the hall is almost empty.

Few scattered people looking at the stage. We are watching a Hogaku concert rehearsal, the Japanese traditional music, Edo music. The exciting meeting with percussionists musicians and the green kimono actress. Picture below: the Uchiwa-ame plays the rain sound.

Harumi Mochizuki, the excellent Hayashi player (Japanese traditional drums) cames from an artist family: a percussionist mother and a singer father. She played around the world.

On the picture below, a Kotsuzumi on the Harumi‘s shoulder. Kotsuzumi is a small drum shaped like an hourglass and used in Nô theater

Katada Kisayo, the gifted percussionist, is gratued of Tokyo University in Music, like all the musicians of Ayairobako (the band presented in this post). No “great sound” without “guitare hero”: on picture 5, two Shamisen players.
