Skiing with style!

I was looking for an edgy versatile ski or outdoor jacket that takes up minimal space in a small suitcase, when I received this awesome black Lightweight Down Jacket of Yeti (above photo montage)! I sometimes carry it in my small handbag (yes!), when I go to several appointments without time to go back home in the day. You’d be surprised at all that my handbag may contain, LOL!

Chic casual piece I wear as well with Huggs, Converse or high heels (including my famous Sam Edelman, picture below). In town, this jacket looks like a sexy vintage “bad boy-seventies” leather jacket. Okay, I don’t go skiing every weekend, LOL! But during my last stay in Val Thorens, I used it on slopes and after skiing, with a T-shirt plus sometimes with a sweater or fleece only. Perfect match for me who can’t stand wearing many layers of clothes.

The slim cut is super comfortable and covers the top of the hips (and insulates from the cold) with great ease in the arms. It feels so warm in this ultra-lightweight jacket, made of “the first plant based Nylon in the world” and Crystal Down. North, the parent brand of Yeti, was awarded with the Gold Outdoor Industry Award 2013 for its “particularly innovative design and above-average product quality.” Did you know the German brand Yeti? Do you wear it?

Club Med Val Thorens Sensations: Ski, Wellness & Parties

Bright mountain and slope views

from the bedroom for my first wake-up at Club Med Val Thorens Sensations (picture above)! The club is next to the slopes. After visiting the various facilities, I go to the Ski Room, trying “my” ski boots, skis, poles and helmet provided by the Club Med throughout the stay.

I am unable to know in what shoe I feel more comfortable. Thanks to the Skiing G.O.s for the perfect organization! And the material is brand new! On photo montage, the fourth and last fame: the locker with my equipment.

In the early afternoon, I start my ski lesson for beginner with Gaëlle, the instructor of the renowned Ecole de Ski Français (ESF). We are five adults (let’s face it) slightly stressed by what’s going on (LOL)!

Finally, I can fully enjoy the breathtaking panorama, blue sky and pleasant temperature. To my surprise, I’ve quickly had lots of fun to slide, turn and slow down for two hours. We go back the Ski Room really tired but a bit euphoric. Then we’ll drink and relax on the Epicurious couches.

A Really Deserved Turkish Bath!

Day 2: in the morning, I agree to join a more experienced group that will ski on a blue slope, without understanding the concept of blue slope! For my first time on the chairlift, I am captivated by the view and don’t imagine what awaits me …

At the top: mild panic, the slope is … yes, steep! I take too much speed and can’t control my right turns! Do I need to specify that Val Thorens is the highest ski area in Europe?

A skier friend helps a girlfriend and I (we are the same beginner level). And he suggests us to use the chairlift going down to the station. Ok, we go back to the chairlift (that never stops) while our expert skier friend goes skiing.

And here we are taught it was impossible to get back to the station with the chairlift. What? Here’s the choice: skiing or walking on the green slope, “the green not the black one”. Seriously? “It will be half an hour walking.” Oh yeah, we had 1:30 by skiing to get back to the station, L-O-L! Okay the view is stunning from the top …

I couldn’t see the end and me and my muscles were fed up. We arrive so exhausted that we take a light lunch to the Main Restaurant, where we find our anxious group! Then we head to the Turkish Bath of the Club Med Wellness Center. We dreamed of steam bath on slopes! And I continue with a back & legs massage at the Club Med Spa by Carita

Beautiful fireworks for the opening night

of the Club Med Val Thorens Sensations (picture above and last picture)! Needless to say, I am much more comfortable on a dance floor than on a blue slope! LOL!

As always, after the shows: the disco. On the photo montage below: the neon evening. And a picture of the team with torches to welcome us the evening of our arrival, enjoy : )

Club Med Val Thorens Sensations: Great Restaurants & Bars

What about a ski weekend in Val Thorens?

Sorry for the long silence, I had some technical issues on the blog. And I just returned from a wonderful ski weekend at the new Club Med Val Thorens Sensations 4 tridents (in Savoy, France), where I was invited to the inauguration. I haven’t set foot in a Club Med for ages (yes I was DJ in another life)!

Still the same winner formula: as soon as you are in the Club, you feel good. Arrived around 11:30 p.m. (after a trip with 3 hour bus), my first discovery was the main restaurant.

The Main Restaurant

User-friendly graphic Yurts

I really discovered the main restaurant at the breakfast, the next morning of my arrival (above photo montage).

Big crush for the yurts scattered in different rooms of the restaurant. They create a sort of intimate cocoon, where I really like to eat and chat under a subdued light.

The dishes are nicely presented. And as always there is many choice and something for everyone. During my short stay, I really enjoyed fresh or dried fruits, ice creams and Kusmi Tea. Shame on me : )

On the photo montage below: No. 3, fish stew in a small red pot, so chic! No. 2, a set of starters elaborated by star chef Edouard Loubet. No. 1, owls gallery at reception and No. 4, the bench of the Canadian (woodcutter) cousin at the gourmet lounge Epicurious.

Breakfast At The Epicurious, Gourmet Lounge

Cozy Atmosphere At The Epicurious

When I finished my first ski lesson in the late afternoon, I joined a part of the group for a drink at the Gourmet Lounge: Epicurious. The outdoor terrace offers panoramic views of the snowy peaks (first photo).

Almost sleepy in a comfortable armchair, while listening some music (photo 7) … when I notice that there’s a live musician and not a soundtrack (LOL!). The space is dedicated to the restoration and local products, including a really nice wine cellar.

The Epicurious restaurant and wine cellar are decorated by Sophie Jacquemin, in charge of the interior design of the whole Club Med Val Thorens Sensations. The tasting dinner is designed by the chef Edouard Loubet, a native of Val Thorens, with 2 Michelin stars, 5 Gault & Millau toques and chef of the year in 2011.

The morning of departure, I take a late breakfast with a view of the mountains. There is less choice than in the main restaurant, but it’s the quieter and more exclusive, with a great service. On the photo montage below: a plate made of cheese, smoked ham and fresh cereal bread.

Tea time At The Main Bar

Yummy break at the main bar: few snacks after skiing! We’re lazily laying in the lounge, with a choice of excellent macaroons, chocolate cakes etc … Before getting ready for dinner, LOL!
