The Vogue Fashion’s Night Out in Lisbon: More Than Fashion

My First Vogue Fashion’s Night Out in Lisbon!

Where were you last night? It started wrong for me. The day before the event, we were 4 highly motivated! Then yesterday, everyone canceled. Urban temper! Never mind, I decided to go with my faithful companion, my Canon and a little newcomer, my new phone ; )

Already three years ago, I attended the Paris Vogue Fashion’s Night Out, Avenue Montaigne, more formal and … Much less relaxed than the Lisbon one which was very festive and friendly! It’s funny because it rained all day long (today too!), but the night was pretty hot!

From Principe Real To Barrio Alto: Everything Is More Beautiful At Night!

First stop in a great neighborhood, Principe Real full of people last night! Pictures 1 and 4: Embaixiada and picture 2: the coffee, bar and restaurant in Embaixiada, Le Jardin which overlooks a bohemian garden. Picture 3: Big up to the Carolina at 21 PR Concept Store, the coolest girl that night!

Picture 5 (below): nice projection on the facade of the CS Vintage Lisboa Hotel. Picture 6: the traffic! Picture 7: live music in Bairro Alto, apparently the audience enjoyed it. The music was outdated and the MC pretty bad (80s hits such as “Last Night a DJ Saved My Life”). Picture 8: the famous tram! And picture 9: the beautiful Museu de São Roque where I spent a long time.

The Great Surprise of The Evening: A Visit To The Museu de São Roque

When I told you that here the Vogue Fashion’s Night Out is more than just a fashion event, thankfully otherwise I couldn’t stay for long! I took the opportunity to discover this rich religious art of the museum and the magnificent church, Igreja de São Roque Museum.

I enjoyed a private tour of the museum with the curators and guides. Picture 11 (below): the Igreja de São Roque and picture 12: one of the chapels of the church dating from the eighteenth century. Picture 10: the lovely courtyard with a soothing atmosphere, where a DJ played good eletro music.

In Chiado: Too Many People!

Unable to move in this dense crowd (picture 13)! And I couldn’t stand people to walk on my new Skechers Go Walk! Honestly I’m not a big fan of the look of these shoes (and I can’t understand why they are the big trend of this fall/winter)! But I love their incredible comfort: the soleplate takes the shape of the foot!  A bless for this kind of night out (review in a future post)!

Bravely I went down to Santini, but looking at the line, I quickly forgot to have an ice cream! A nightmare to walk back to Bairro Alto, some great live Cuban music (picture 14) … How can people go shopping in these conditions?

Vila Vita Parc, Portugal: Restaurants & Wine Cellar

Breakfast overlooking the ocean

at the Atlântico restaurant: exhilarating (picture 1)! Around 10 am, the sun is already pretty strong and the day before we were afraid it would rain! The green garden bordering the coast, draws perfectly on the ocean blue.

The view is stunning: picture 2, taken at the Ocean restaurant, the ocean view is quite similar to the terrace of the Atlântico! Every day we choose a new table at breakfast with a different view of the ocean.

The buffet of the Atlântico restaurant is varied: excellent fresh fruits bursting with sunshine, with a friendly discreet service. Photos 2, 3 and 4: Ocean, the famous gourmet restaurant with two Michelin stars! Photo 2: Empty wine decanters, like in an alchemist’s lair … Photo 3: A giant Fabergé egg in malachite!

The best fish in the world

I dreamed of a great fish to change (LOL!). We dine “casual chic” in Adega, the restaurant of Portuguese specialties. Discovering my huge dish, I am impressed by the size of the fish (picture above and on the last picture of this article : photo 1, the terrasse of Adega)!

I learned that chefs of gourmet restaurants in London and New York charter aircraft with fish caught in the area the same day. This year, the fish of the Algarve have received the title of best fish in the world.

I’m not a foodie, but I can appreciate some great ingredients: my fish is excellent! As a starter, I chose delicious shrimps! A kind of proteins orgy : )

Do you know the Portuguese Pétrus?

No, this is not a Madeira wine, but a grand cru of Douro, North of Portugal: the Barca Velha (picture above).

At seven meters under ground (the adventure begins!), we meet the sommelier José Figueirinha for a private tour of the Vila Vita Parc wine cellar. Exceptional cellar in Portugal, with an average of 11,000 bottles (pictures below 2 & 3).

Many great Portuguese and French wines (including Château Latour), but also Italian, Spanish or South African wines … And a room especially dedicated to Porto Vintage.

Nazaré, Portugal: The Biggest Wave in The World

Nazaré-Praia do Norte-1-Photo Mademoiselle Le K-copyright 2013

Onda da Nazaré, the biggest wave in the world !

And extreme surf ! Yes, Nazaré ! Do you remember in 2011 the feat of the Hawaiian Garrett McNamara who surfed a wave of 23.77 meters high ? The biggest wave ever surfed … Until he established a new world record in January 2013 and this time with a wave of more than 30 meters! Welcome to Nazaré, Portugal … 1h30 drive north of Lisbon.

Stunning panorama of Praia do Norte (North Beach) from the old lighthouse. The wind is cold, mild euphoria, I do not feel the cold, warmed up by this amazing winter sun. Azure sky, incredible brightness ! Surf waves break a few meters below. No wall of water today, from time to time some powerful waves, Atlantic Ocean. Whenever I discover a legendary surf spot is flat LOL! Two three surfers in the water, a photographer with his assistant and a tripod …

I can spend hours and hours looking at the ocean, endless beach. And we head to the beach. No real path, the descent is steep, very steep . Large sandbar that stretches out of sight . I’m deafened by the noise of the wind and waves. Also surprised that despite a strong wind, the sand doesn’t fly unlike Guincho, another famous surf spot in Portugal. Time flies, we must go back, I feel boosted. A last glance towards the beach (photo 9). To be continued …
