Areias do Seixo: Awesome Eco-luxury Hotel in Portugal

Areias do Seixo-Portugal-Hotel-2-Photo Mademoiselle Le K-copyright 2014

Before exploring the beautiful cliffs and beaches near the Areias do Seixo,

I have tea with a friend in the large lounge-dining room of the hotel (pictures 1, 2 & 3). I really like how light brings rhythm in the big hall, drawing shadows, chiaroscuro. The view of the nearby ocean (photo 7). Decoration: a successful mix of raw concrete, antique objects, the omnipresence of wood, cabinet of curiosities and ultra modern structure. The whole creates an unique world really contemporary and poetic. We are in the Costa de Prata, under an incredible blue sky, but I can also feel a little elsewhere, Morocco, Scandinavia … nomadic setting.

In the evening I meet Gonçalvo Alves,

co-owner of the Areias do Seixo with Marta Fonseca who are a couple of travelers, from Torres Vedras:

– We wanted a big house where people meet to share simple things. We also had a real interest in ecology and sustainable development. We wanted something beautiful and very simple in hippie chic spirit, the best of luxury. We worked with the architect Vasco Vieira and designer Rosarinho Gabriel to create a unique place dedicated to people who are in love.

How the Areias do Seixo is it an eco-friendly hotel?

– We have a green cover on the roof to balance temperature. To consume less, geothermal underfloor heating and thirty solar panels for electricity and heating. We use compost to fertilize our garden and vegetable garden. Products of the restaurant are from organic agriculture and most of them are from the region, including wine.

Ninety percent of people who work at the hotel are locals. It becomes common to worry about the environment in Portugal. Our great-great grandparents were very green and sustainable. And Portuguese remained very authentic, very attached to their roots. We draw our knowledge among the ancients. We apply the rule of the 3 R’s: reduce, reuse, recycle.

What would you like your guests to take away from their experience of Areias do Seixo ?

– Some say they have redesigned their life and relationship to the environment after their stay here. It’s wonderful for us because it is our passion !

Obrigada to Gonçalvo Alves, Marta Fonseca and all the team !

My friend and I were guests of the Areias do Seixo hotel and as always these opinions are mine.

Bangkok Tree House, The Eco-friendly Hotel

Thailand-Bangkok-Tree House-3A-Photo Mademoiselle Le K-copyright 2013

After several days of an itinerant blog trip in nature reserves,

I spent two days in Bangkok Tree House. Epic arrival in a motorized small boat stuck in the mud, filmed by the show “Follow Me” for Thai TV channel! So glam! Honestly after hours on the road, endless waiting at the airport, the aircraft, traffic jam in Bangkok and now the vase added to a moist heat (I liquify): I don’t really want to be filmed ! The art of being a travel AND fashion blogger ; )

The area is far from the center

and I feel heading to the end of the world when reaching by the bamboo pontoon. I really liked the architecture and eco-friendly concept. The small hotel of eight rooms, is divided into several blocks partially covered with large mirrors, bamboo, paintings of artists (below) and lush vegetation (photo 6).

The owner and staff are very welcoming. The place is hype. Before discovering my room, during the filming of “Follow Me”, I begin a short interview with the producer and host, Dr. Nathasedh Top Poonsapmanee (photo 5).

– In “Follow Me”, I’d like the Thai to see places where they never go. Today Bangkok is colorful and a mix of tradition and new generation.

Where to eat and drink in Bangkok?

– Go to Sukkumvit area! Bo.Lan is a renowned Thai restaurant, run by a couple of chefs, Bo and Dylan (Sukhumvit Soi 26). Grase, a bar and nightclub (Sukhumvit Soi 49). And Level, club and lounge (Sukhumvit Soi 11).

What about Thai young designers?

– For women: Vic and Asava. For men: Grey house and Closet.

The + of the Bangkok Tree House

The eco-friendly and sustainable concept: congrats ! The architecture and decoration both organic and design, are great too. The atmosphere and the staff are very cool, it feels good immediately. The neighborhood, 100% Thai immersion.

The – of the Bangkok Tree House

The hotel is on stilts, at low tide you can see all the rubbish of the Chao Phraya river and it is not pleasant. Maintenance: ants invasion on my bed and clogged toilets in my room. The restaurant.

Tokyo, Japan: Meeting Maki Saito of Numero Tokyo

TOKYO CITY GUIDE: TOKYO BY A LOCAL

Tokyo-Japan-City Guide-Women in Kimono-Photo Mademoiselle Le K-copyright 2014

– The most important Japanese fashion magazines are Nihon Vogue, Numéro Tokyo, ELLE and Harper’s Bazaar.

When I met Maki Saito, she was the Picture Editor of Numero Tokyo. She studied first the English Art and Litterature at Kobe university and Photography in London:

– I wanted to be a photographer. I travelled in all Europe during one year. Back to Japan, I started working at Nihon Vogue and GQ. Then I came at Numero Tokyo, six months before the first issue with Kate Moss.

What are the differences beteween Numero (Paris) and Numero Tokyo?

– We do our own shooting, covers and fashion series. Different cultures, different tastes. In Japan, pictures have to be more cutter and sweeter.

What about her Tokyo?

– Tokyo is a really interesting city with lots of different areas. We have everything. Shinjuku people are different than Shibuya people.

1. I enjoy small areas: Mishuku is close to Shibuya, with small bars and used to be a big traditional place.

2. Last week-end, I went to Jyugaoka station for shopping pottery. I really like Japanese sets.

3. For fashion: Shibuya and Harajuku. I like to go to Beams. I love hats, any kind of hats. I love shoes too, but I always buy them overseas.

As a traveler:

– I feel different, more open minded. I love going to big cities. I came from country side, a small archipelago, famous for Udon (kind of Soba): the landscape and the sanctuaire of 88 temples and thousand steps to reach to one of them (Kompirasan). I enjoy calm and friendly people.
