Stunning Architecture

A Walk In The Old Town

Finally in Cádiz on the Atlantic coast of Andalusia! We left the surroundings of Malaga around 10 a.m. this morning. On the way, we stopped at a beautiful deserted beach in Tarifa. Then on the road, we allso stopped at another beautiful beach in a natural reserve lost in the middle of nowhere. In short, we arrive in the historic center of Cadiz in the middle of the afternoon. Better late than never! 

Big crush for the city: the seaside reminds me Havana! The old buildings are superb. The pace is indolent in the oldest city of the West founded by the Phoenicians 3000 years ago. A movie set in a soft light, without tourists at this time of the year. The old town is small, we quickly made the tour: I take pleasure in losing myself in its streets and take the same route several times.

        

Castillo de San Sebastián

While we are looking for a café overlooking the ocean, we come across an entrance to this fortress surrounded by water (left photo below): the Castillo de San Sebastián. A very pleasant walk where we can see another point of view of Cádiz (first photo of the article). 

  

The Outdoor Café

  

Very cool, close to the cathedral of Cádiz and facing the ocean: the dream! On the left, when you are facing the Cathedral (back to the ocean). Relaxed atmosphere and great panoramic view! Excellent green olives with our drinks, I don’t want to return to Malaga (our base for this second roadtrip in Andalusia).

And if we stayed in Cadiz, darling? “The beauty of Cadiz has velvet eyes, Chi-ca! Chi-ca! Chic! Ay! Ay! Ay!“, translation: “The beauty of Cadiz has velvet eyes, Chi-ca! Chi-ca! Chic! Ay! Ay! Ay! ” (by Luis Mariano). Sorry (not sorry), I couldn’t help myself! Lol! A little vintage operetta. To be continued beautiful readers …

Notre second roadtrip en Andalousie: Cadix

Superbe architecture

Promenade dans la vieille ville

Enfin à Cadix, sur la côte atlantique andalouse! Nous sommes partis vers 10h ce matin, des environs de Malaga. En chemin, nous nous sommes arrêtés à une superbe plage déserte de Tarifa. Puis en reprenant la route, à une autre belle plage dans une réserve naturelle perdue au milieu de nulle part. Bref, nous arrivons dans le centre historique de Cadix en milieu d’après-midi. Mieux vaut tard que jamais!

Gros coup de coeur : le bord de mer à des allures de La Havane! Les bâtiments anciens sont superbes. Le rythme est indolent dans la plus vieille cité d’Occident, fondée par les phéniciens il y a 3000 ans. Un décor de cinéma dans une lumière douce, sans touriste à cette époque de l’année. La vieille ville est petite, on en a vite fait le tour : je prends plaisir à me perdre dans ses ruelles et emprunter plusieurs fois le même itinéraire.

        

Castillo de San Sebastián

Tandis que nous cherchons un café avec vue sur l’Océan, nous trouvons par hasard une entrée menant à cette forteresse entourée d’eau (photo de gauche çi-dessous) : le Castillo de San Sebastián. Très agréable promenade, d’où l’on a un autre point de vue de Cadix (première photo de l’article).

Très cool, à deux pas de la cathédrale de Cadix, face à l’océan : le rêve! Sur la gauche, lorsque vous êtes face à la Cathédrale (et dos à l’océan). Ambiance relaxe et chouette vue panoramique! D’excellentes olives vertes pour accompagner nos verres, je n’ai plus du tout envie de rentrer à Malaga, notre base pour ce second roadtrip en Andalousie.

Et si on restait à Cadix, mon chéri? “La belle de Cadix a des yeux de velours, Chi-ca! Chi-ca! Chic! Ay! Ay! Ay!” (par Luis Mariano) Sorry, je n’ai pas pu m’empêcher! Lol! On finit par un petit air vintage d’operette. A suivre…

French Alps, Les Arcs: Ski, Lounge & Fooding

The Village Igloo Les Arcs

When I Arrived 

at the hotel Taj-I Mah the day before, I tasted the dark siver macaroons of the Michelin Starred Chef Eric Samson (first photo of the article). This morning, I head with Lo, my gorgeous “snow BFF”, to the Village Igloo Les Arcs. 

Ten minutes walk from the hotel with an amazing blue sky! What a pleasure to walk on the footpaths of the freshly groomed empty ski slopes! I really enjoy the beginning of the ski season! No crowd, so calm!

Fairy Ice Cavern

    

Upon Entering,

I was just expecting the traditional ice bar plus few tables. What a surprise to discover an ice cavern of 150 m² too! You follow more or less narrow corridors adorned with sculptures inspired by Nordic legends.

We had the chance to meet the team of sculptors at work. You can extend the magic by spending one night in one of the two rooms (no sanitary facilities on site). You feel out of time …

    

Between Two Skiing Sessions

Lunch at l’Atelier d’Eric

During this relaxing weekend, I took my two lunch with beautiful views of the slopes at l’Atelier d’Eric (located in the hotel Taj-I Mah): each time, excellent! If you follow me on this blog, you know how much I enjoy the inventive simple light cuisine of the Chef Eric Samson. In your plate, you can recognize each flavor.

Photos below: left, first day, first lunch with tuna and Japanese mushrooms. To the right, second day: tuna and Walnut St. Jacques with a tian of vegetables. And for the two lunchs, the same Valrhona chocolate and pear dessert, I love it! 

And if you don’t know where dining, I recommend you the Diamond Noir, the gourmet restaurant of the Taj-I Mah, under the leadership of Chef Eric Samson.

Tea time at The Lodge

We drive to the Arc 1800. Picture above: the classified buildings of the famous architect Charlotte Perriand. Then we take the cable car to Mille8, where the Lodge, a restaurant-café with modern decoration and Scandinavian influences, is located.

Here, no partying vibe like in la Folie Douce, but I immediately liked this place for the space, interior design, atmosphere and view. Thank you Lo! You feel as good inside as on the terrace. It was hard for us to leave, lol!
