Thessaloniki, Greece: Restaurants and Nightlife

Restaurants

B. Restaurant

If you’re a fan of Mediterranean cuisine, you will be delighted in Thessaloniki! Here are some restaurants I’ve tested and much loved during my (too) short stay. Let’s start with B. the restaurant of the Byzantine Museum that I have unfortunately not visited for lack of time.

As soon as I came, I really liked the decoration of the courtyard and the cosy atmosphere (above and below pictures). The dishes prepared by award-winning chef Sotiris Evangelou change with the seasons. Excellent Mediterranean cuisine enhanced by French and Italian elements: tasteful, lightweight and gourmet.

Daios Bar-Restaurant

Located in Nikis Avenue, this restaurant of the Daios hotel offers a very pleasant view to the blue Mediterranean sea. Close to the famous Proxenou Koromila street (shopping area), the place is chic and casual.

The beautifully presented dishes are delicious (below pictures), inspired by a combination of modern Greek cuisine and Mediterranean cuisine. Excellent! I took the opportunity to visit one of the suites on the top floor with stunning sea views (yes the sea, always the sea!).

Navona Restaurant

Interesting decor, I liked the circular bar and wall panels (above and below pictures). I had a very good dinner, we laughed a lot! The Navona is one of the Makedonia Palace restaurants, located on the waterfront.

Italian cuisine and friendliness: in my plate, a succulent grilled chicken with a very good pizza. Go there with friends or family. Unpretentious atmosphere.

Ouzou Melathron

The Ouzou Melathron is a classic in Thessaloniki, nestled in a quiet pedestrian street with empty bird cages hanging in the air. To discover traditional Greek cuisine in a Greek ambiance! The night I was there, Cretan customers danced the Sirtaki.

On the principle of meze, I’ve tasted many different dishes all very good (and a little greasy). Meatballs, salads with feta cheese and fresh vegetables, potatoes baked with lemon and olive oil … A treat!

Thessalonique by night

Thessaloniki is a student city, full of bars and terraces where to go out at night. The best is yet to have a walk and choose a bar according to the inspiration of the moment. Go with the flow and enjoy!

Hillside Beach Club: Room With a Soothing Seaview

The view, light & peaceful landscape!

After a long journey – my first flight landed at midnight, followed by the boarding of my second flight at 4 a.m. – I decide to spend the next three hours in the coffee at the airport arrivals. What a surprise, a nice waitress and an outlet to recharge my laptop!

Once seated on the plane to Fethiye, we wait more than an hour before taking off, lulled by the hysterical cries of a  temperamental kid! A nightmare!

So you can imagine THE pleasure when early afternoon I finally open the door of my room at Hillside Beach Club! I am immediately caught by the sight (pictures 1 & 2)!

Difficult not feeling on holiday!

Every details, materials and colors of the decoration (recently renovated) encourage a certain indolence which frees the mind.

Offering free Wifi throughout the club, me and my computer (digital nomads) declare the couch facing the sea: our new workspace (picture 1)!

We can access to the bathroom (very well equipped wirh separated toilets) through the terrace. The bathrobes are soft and I loved the detail of wooden curtain, with eyes that protect from bad luck (pictures 4 & 5).

Each day, the maids creates a small flower arrangement, like the bougainvillea flowers in heart shape on the bed! Thank you for this delicate attention that have put me in a great mood!

Homely contemporary decor

White walls and comfortable huge bed, facing the soothing view to the landscape. Some nights, I could admire the starry sky or the moon reflection on the sea from my bed wedged into soft pillows!

This allowed me to avoid mosquitoes (through the bay window closed). Everywhere they love me! But here, much less than in Poland for example, LOL!

I also enjoyed the lighting with dimmer, plugs everywhere, including on each side of the bed, and behind sliding doors, a discreet large dressing with a long mirror.

Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach: A room with a seaview

Beautiful view’s room on the emerald sea of the Persian Gulf. Picture 1: right side of the panorama, one of the three artificial islands of The Palm or Palm Islands. Pictures 2 & 4: direct view of the public beach in front of Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach. Too bad the beach is separated from the hotel entrance by an incongruous parking. Otherwise the hotel is very well located for an express stay in the tourist area of Jumeirah Beach, in a pleasant long walk by the sea, including sidewalk cafes and restaurants, a few shops (like Boots, very handy) and close to the Marina Jumeirah, where you can find the Buddha Bar (coming up post). Picture 3: left side of the panorama from my room.
