Dubai For 48h: Dubai Creek, On My Way to Dubai Heritage Village

From the Deira Gold Souq, I’ve walked along the Deira Creeks (pictures 1 & 2), then jumped in a taxi boat (pictures 3, 5 & 6) to the vicinity of Dubai Heritage Village (picture 4), where I stopped and chilled at the terrace of a cafe full of people with a view of one of the banks. The fresh orange juice is delicious. The walk from the Deira Gold Souk is long, forget your flip-flops for an old pair of sneakers (especially if like me, you get to lose the way!). But the Deira district offers a  relaxing part of Dubai, so far away from the ultra-modern buildings of Downtown. To recommend to anyone looking for a break of the madness of malls, shopping and resorts.

Dubai For 48 Hours: Burj Khalifa

A post for all the architecture lovers: this skyscraper is just beautiful! Beyond the technical prowess (the world’s tallest tower which rises to 829.8 m), Burj Khalifa is absolutely gorgeous! The photographer in me would had much more fun, if I had more time for taking pictures! But I had no time, I didn’t plan a visit to Burj Khalifa this evening and came across it by chance. Such a shame! If I had time, I would probably have taken 10,000 photos! (LOL!). No visit inside either, there is the Armani Hotel I wanted to check, but 2-3 snapshots of Dowtown Dubai and I go to the other end of the city to the Jumeirah Beach district. Distances are big.

Dubai, U.A.E.: The Infini Pool Lounge @ The Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach

The evening, I really enjoyed swimming at the pool of the Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach. The day, it offers view down to the sea with turquoise reflections. The height allows to ignore a (surprising) car park between the hotel and the beach. But I am a night person and the Infinity Pool Lounge is a cosy space. Until midnight you can sip excellent fresh juices, nestled in a comfortable armchair, the head in the stars. The extremely kind staff of the lounge does everything to please you: serving you simple dishes that are not on the snacks menu.  Such a shame the rest of the hotel is so impersonal! And I didn’t like the hotel’s design.
