Croatia: My Cruise In The Islands

A Cruise In The Croatian Islands

Disclaimer: this trip was made several months before
the lockdown following Covid-19. I am currently at home.

I usually get seasick. So planning a cruise in Croatia, I was both very excited (because I had already traveled to Croatia and liked it a lot), but also a little concerned. How to deal with seasick for eight days on the nice medium-sized yacht privatized by the travel agency, Blauwe Vogel, for a group of ten travelers? And this is where the magic of the Mediterranean operated (LOL)! Not once did I feel seasick!

On the program: stops at Miljet, Hvar, Brac, Split, Markasa, Korcula and the stunning Dubrovnik. Beautiful landscapes, warm water between ultramarine blue and turquoise, typical villages and historic cities. An explosion of colors and sensations, the beauty of Croatia combined with the one of the Mediterranean Sea. With the friend who accompanied me, at each stopover, we organized an activity, such as for example at Miljet, where we biked along the steep coastline.

Each evening, we also choose a restaurant where to dine. Besides, I ate the best homemade ice cream in Hvar, “my” favorite island of this whole trip (relaxed and joyful atmosphere). If I’m honest, I really liked ALL the stops, even Split which I didn’t like as much as the others, because of the crowds. But we managed to walk through some quiet streets (without tourists) of the old town. Back on board, our cabin with a bathroom, although very simple was very clean and comfortable with the air co. Between two stops, we threw ink into the open sea to bathe. The dream.

Our itinerary in pictures below.

Days 1 & 2:  Arrival In Dubrovnik & Miljet

Day 3:  Hvar

Day 4:  The Beach Of Bol In Brac Island & Split

Day 5: Pusisca In Brac Island & Makarska

Jour 6: Korcula

Days 7 & 8: Dubrovnik & Departure To Brussels

Switzerland: HUUS Gstaad Hotel

Did You Say Cosy?

Really Cool Interior Design

Sorry for the poor quality of the photos. It was before I invested in a new mobile phone.

Finally, here is a new hotel review! I do less and less for lack of time! I still recommend hotels (which I have tested) in my articles on destinations. But for the HUUS Gstaad Hotel, I really like the cosy hipster interior design created by a Swedish architect studio (I guess). It’s the kind of hotel where you feel like at home.

My weekend evenings were really festive with DJs, champagne, sushi platters at the bar and a mix of locals and tourists. During my short stay in Gstaad and Saanen, my planning was super busy, so I didn’t have time to test the spa. On the other hand, I had a lovely dinner with friends at La Vue Restaurant. I ate delicious Italian-inspired dishes, prepared with local products.

The Room

A Warm Cocoon

My room was a real cocoon, difficult to leave: really comfortable bedding, small bathroom very well equipped. And the cuckoo clock (photo above) which reminds you that you are actually in Switzerland. The French window opens onto a courtyard with sun loungers and views of the surrounding countryside. So quiet and relaxing (photo below).

Many thanks to Myswitzerland and the HUUS Gstaad Hotel, for this beautiful invitation. As always these are my opinions.

Switzerland: 7 Activities For a Weekend in Gstaad

1. Snowshoeing & Nature In Sparenmoos

When it is snowing a lot and the fog is falling, I much prefer snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing with an experienced instructor who will be able to choose the right place. Significantly less stressful than being at the top of a slope for skiing without any visibility! So I discover with pleasure the beautiful scenery of Sparenmoos. Big crush on the fir trees, a bit like in Méribel! A fairytale landscape.

2. Visiting The Mirage of Doug Aitken

The Unusual Experience

I really liked the short hike to the Mirage by the American artist Doug Aitken. A visionary construction, located between Gstaad and Schönried. Fantastic! All walls (including ceiling and roof with the exception of the floor) are mirrors. Stunning and fun! A must see and experience! The installation will remain until January 2021.

3. A Drink On The Slopes

Enjoying The Panorama

During this weekend, the weather is pretty capricious, two white days (very foggy) and one single sunny day (the one of my departure, lol!). Finally with a friend and our instructor, we take a long break at the top of the slopes, waiting for a better visibility. The weather darkens and we went back down by cable car. But happy!

4. Sleeping at 1,450 Meters Above Sea Level

In Nature

I spent the first night of my trip at the Rinderberg Swiss Alpine Lodge. A  real change of scenery! You need to take the cable car to access this very welcoming and cozy little hotel, located near the Rinderbergbahn intermediate station. From the small balcony of my room, I have a panoramic view of the mountain and the fir trees. The landscape is a bit magical. Photo above: the spa bordered by fir trees.

5. Strolling in Gstaad

Away From The Hustle And Bustle

The Gstaad I discover (off of the season) is a quiet and charming village. People are relaxed and the general rythm is calm. Perfect when you need to recharge, or if you are agoraphobic. On the shopping side: Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Dolce Gabbana … are installed in beautiful wooden “chalets”. There are plethora of restaurants and some cafes and bars are really cool.

6. Discovering Saneen

The Historic Village

The center of Saanen is charming with small streets lined with wooden houses built between the 15th century and the 18th century. The woodwork (facades and doors) is beautiful. And the al fresco paintings of the Saint Maurice church date back to the 15th century. There are also a few lovely shops with local handicrafts. A nice walk after skiing.

7. The Hype Design Hotel

Where To Stay

The HUUS Hotel Gstaad is defenitely my favorite place in Gstaad! I am absolutely delighted with my two nights there. Awesome design, team and atmosphere! I really liked my room, the common areas, lounge with the fireplace, long bar, excellent Italian restaurant, view, champagne evening, breakfast and location!
