Near Arronches

Bela Natureza

This morning, departure from Avis towards Arronches, in the district of Portalegre (Alto Alentejo, close to the Spanish border). On the program: visit the most important group of prehistoric cave paintings outdoors in Portugal, in the Junco Valley (Vale de Junco).

Classified national monument, they were designed between 4000 and 2000 years before Christ and represent the consecration of the place: the scientific interpretations differ (photo below). Last year I returned to the superb Archaeological Museum of Côa (Centre of Portugal). I am fan: child, I wanted to be a paleontologist, archaeologist …

Magnificent nature! We continue with a walk on the walking path PR1 ARR “Feel Alentejo Nature” – Percurso Pedestrian da Esperança (about 6km / 1:45 / low difficulty level) in the Serra of Sao Mamede Natural Park. Better than a thousand words, a few photos! And old girlfriends, cows ; )

Estremoz

The Old Town

Estremoz for lunch. I really enjoy the small intimate streets of the old town, deserted at lunchtime. Occasionally, a silhouette crosses. The contrast between blue sky and white walls, brightness, the South. As a photographer, I need a beautiful natural light!

What I also really like in Portugal, Japan and Croatia: it’s clean, streets are super clean. A real pleasure!

The Lunch

A place not to miss the Mercearia Gadanha restaurant, where we had a long lunch. Very good food in a cool atmosphere and decoration (photos below). And for chocolate addicts: a large selection of chocolates (including Belgian chocolates) in the deli section of the restaurant.

Monsaraz

Open-air Museum

Like Saint Emilion in France, Monsaraz is an open-air museum medieval city in which you aimlessly wander … Just for the pleasure. And enjoy an Alentejo wine tasting on the rooftop terrace of the Ervideira winery.

Some boho shops, winding clean streets and an arena that in September and Easter hosts bullfighting festivals. And panoramic views of the river Rio Guadiana (last photo). Now we drive to the famous Évora.

It’s Time To Hit The Road Again, Miss!

Last March, I was invited in Switzerland, to a conference about a luxury travel (a post soon). The first topic was to define today luxury: we all agree to define it by experience and service. And Casa da Cisterna is a perfect mix of these two concepts!

During my trip to the Center of Portugal, I had a real crush on this little gem nestled in the castle of Castelo Rodrigo, a medieval village overlooking a wide plain. Olympian calm and a view to die for! To open a book and curl up in a hammock.

Speaking of experience, Ana Berliner, the charming owner of Casa da Cisterna and her great team have prepared a surprise: a wilderness dinner atop a mountain overlooking Spain. Simple and elegant: one of the best memories of my stay in the Center!

My Room

Intimate

The more I travel, fewer places where instantly, I feel really good! Beyond the decor, it is first a question of energy, space and light. Upon entering my room, I had this reassuring diffused sensation of clarity, sharpness and sweetness.

Each room is decorated differently. The facilities are new, with separate shower and toilet, and the bedding is impeccable. In a weekend, I removed 15 days of insomnia :)) Photo below: the golden morning light and breakfast on the terrace. I never tire of the view!

A Suite in The White 1921 Courchevel

My balcony

Beautiful view of the center of Courchevel 1850 village! I arrived at the White 1921 Courchevel from La Tania in the morning. Time to meet the bubbly general manager of this new hotel of 26 rooms and take a swimsuit (for my day spa in Aquamotion) and I went for lunch with Nathalie at Nikki Beach (next post).

In the early evening, I returned at the hotel like a whirlwind, to get dressed for the dinner (and I was late!). Late at night, I finally discovered my suite and fell in love with the balcony, view, carpet (with my red stiletto), decor and bed … and the slightly sloping ceiling and couch and … well everything!

The Design

A Graphic Cocoon

I didn’t want to leave! So the second night I forget the restaurant to lazily stay in the so comfy bed. The pillows and duvet are fantastic too!

The sleek style of the architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte creates a universe where it feels both very relaxed and a little star (sorry not sorry, lol!). On the photo montage: Schuss, the chic magazine about mountain a journalist friend offered me.

The Bathroom

White And Rectilinear

The bathroom has no fancy. Everything is in the details: soft bathrobes and towels (photo above). The inside of the two sewing and cotton boxes have the same design as on the walls of the room and the hotel’s website (1).

The Acqua di Parma bath products: soaps make soft skin and remind me of the Sungai Gold in Bali (2). The minimalist equipment (l4). And especially the smart flush (3).
