Zagreb, Croatia: Museum of Broken Relationships

Croatia-Zagreb-Museum of Broken Relationships-1-Photo Mademoiselle Le K-copyright 2013

One day in Zagreb

and I don’t have time for several museums, if I want to take the pulse of the city! I want to visit one truly unique museum, the confidential brand new Museum of Broken Relashionships. Let’s talk about heartbrokens, lol! So if you also have a very limited time in the city, it’s THE museum that everyone should experience!

A gem of humor (sometimes ironic) about a disappointed romantic relationships. Who can pretend having never been disillusioned with an ex? You can even see the wedding album of an happy ex, donated to the museum (wow!). The concept is fantastic and  “Get lucky” (ie. Daft Punk). First, you send an object that “represents” your broken relationship. The object must be accompanied by an explanatory legend. Then the objects and stories that passed the selection, are exposed. The exhibition spaces are stunning in a renovated historic building.

Some objects detonate and surprise

(pictures 5 and 6). Reading some stories, lots of fun. Most protagonists whose purpose is breaking presentation, has a lot of humor (pictures 4 and 7)! Between another contemporary art museum showing very pretentious works (often disappointing, if not confusing) and this fresh intimate museum full of self-mockery: do not hesitate!

And I am not sponsored by the museum, it’s just a real nice surprise as I enjoy them! I had a tremendous moment there. And to extend the stealth and pleasurable moment of the “revenge“, check the small museum boutique. Picture 1: an irresistible chocolate to offer to the one who deserve it, LOL! Lucky you!

Great surprise on my way to breakfast

Esplanade Zagreb-Breakfast@Terrace-2-Photo Mademoiselle Le K-copyright 2013

at the Esplanade Zagreb: the huge terrace of the chic Oleander Terrace. Discrete mixture of tourists and businessmen. Some shrubs, umbrellas and a lot of space. I dreamed it for a long time! Nothing’s better for the mood: the sun, some fresh or dried fruits and especially a  blue blue sky, yes! 8 a.m. and already this incredible brightness: meaning galvanized me!

After an endless bad winter and the worst spring, I have an overwhelming need to see the sun, be in the sun (in the shade, LOL!) and “Get Lucky” (Daft punk!) The night before, I didn’t pay attention to the exterior architecture of the hotel and its surroundings. Impressive facade (pictures 4 & 5), the charm of the roaring twenties, revised and corrected (the hotel was renovated in 2004).

Le Bistro Esplanade

Art deco decoration in The Bistro Esplanade, where I dined late last night (pictures 6,7,8, 9 & 10). The service is attentive and the food, light and really tasty, blending French and Croatian flavors. I also appreciated the fact that I could isolate myself quietly. After more than 24 hours without sleep, I was happy not to have to cross the town for dinner (my Tokyo syndrome!).

Soon, I have an appointment with Dora, my insder guide for a tour of a few hours in the old town. This is a great option if you have very little time and a natural predisposition to get lost! Really! And I’m not the type to be satisfied with the classic tourist circuit. I’m more interested in taking the pulse of the city (suspens!). Needless to say I enjoy every minute on the terrace, where I could spend hours and hours to plan my day (LOL!). Lazy girl!

Elephant Hills, Thailand: Luxury Tent Next To The Rainforest

After my unforgettable encounter with the awsome Haha

and other elephants: return to Elephant Hills camp, where I really discover my spacious tent in details. Back tired, but full of pictures of this endless day started at dawn at Cheio Larn Lake, I took these pictures before collapsing. Or almost collapsing, because after, I have to go dinner…

The tent is awsome! Simply decorated and inspired by an African lodge revised Thai way. Each element recalls the elephants: stools, towel racks … like in the picture 6. Nicewooden floors: I take off our shoes before entering the tent. And my advice is do not leave your shoes outside, if you don’t want to find a colony of insects!

The tent is also comfortable, with mosquito nets everywhere

(pictures 2, 3 and 4). And I was able to sleep without a mosquito (or any other visible insect), a bless! Impeccable bedding next to the fan. But the big thing is the real bathroom (picture 5)! Yes, a real one: clean, pretty and useful (cold water only, it’s okay for me). Since leaving Chumphon, I’ve dreamed of it!

To conclude for my first “camping”experience in Thailand (LOL!), I love it! Another detail I found quite fun, the lock that serves as a key to close the tent (really old school process, lol). You should not need to make fifty back and forth to your tent in the evening, it quickly becomes bothering! Last picture: the path to the tents.
