Ritz Carlton Ras Al Khaimah, Al Wadi Desert

A Luxury Resort In The Desert

The Arrival

We landed at Dubai International Airport at 6 a.m. Then we took the road to Ras Al Khaimah, one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates. Located in the Al Wadi Nature Reserve. the Ritz Carlton Ras Al Khaimah, Al Wadi Desert looks like a luxury oasis opened to the desert.

From the lobby (first photo of the post), it feel so different and exotic with a friendly welcome. After a quick stop to our villa to cool off, a kart drops us off at the Kaheela restaurant for breakfast. Soothing view of an elegant fountain (third picture below), with a large selection of Arabic, Indian and Western cuisines. Exciting!

The Villa

View Of The Pool & Desert

Our villa of 158 square meters is oriented towards the desert. When I got in for the first time, I was impressed by the height of the ceilings and the “Hollywood” vast and extremely comfortable bathroom.

I really enjoy the space and distribution of rooms which offers a great intimacy, each one can breath without disturbing the other. Inspired by Bedouin culture, the interior design is contemporary, sober and functional.

I also like the woodwork, the dressing room and the king size bed with direct views of the pool and the desert. Besides, I stayed in the pool for a long time to look at the dunes …

The Equestrian Centre

Horseback Riding In The Desert

On the program, we planned a ride on Arabian horses in the desert. It promises to be wow! Problem, I did a horseback ride once in my life, in Mexico a long time ago.

In short, today I did not spend more than five minutes on the saddle. Colombo, my horse is adorable, but I do not feel comfortable (it moves, lol). I need to take some lessons to gain confidence.

I decide to stay at the Al Wadi Equestrian Adventure Centre (which is in the property of the hotel) and discover the other horses, while two small gazelles run in front of me! So cool!

You can take private riding lessons, unfortunately I will not have time during this short stay. So I will bike (yes, guys!) because each villa has bicycles available.

Japon: Sasayuri-Ann Terrace Villas (D2)

The Fire Ceremony

Here is the following article of the previous : Japan Sasayuri-Ann Terrace Villas (Day 1). Before you start playing: If the videos take a long time to load, or stop playing, be patient and refresh the page.

Early this morning, around 7:30 am we attend the Fire Ceremony in the small temple of the Sasayuri-Ann property. We are eight people, monks included. Our host and owner of the villas, Mr. Matsubayashi is also a monk of the Shugendo sect, one of the oldest in Japan.

The day before, each of us wrote on a wooden stick a wish with his name, or the one of the person to whom the wish is intended to. These sticks will feed the fire during the ceremony. The rite is really impressive with the fire, drum, song and incantations. You can’t live and feel the same.

During: I observe, I notice the smallest details without understanding. So later, I ask Mr. Matsubayashi about the Fire Ceremony’s purpose that takes place on the 28th of each month. He rxplains : “in the esoteric Buddhism, fire is the symbol of God”.

The Akame 48 Shijyuhachitaki Waterfalls

Late Morning

We go to the Akame 48 falls (Nabari), the region is the cradle of Ninjas who also included women. The story tells that in the feudal period, a secret agent ninja was training there.

What a joy to be in contact with nature in the beautiful Muro Akame Aoyama National Park! We spontaneously made tree hunging! The place is inspiring. I know, I know … But believe it or not, this added to the contemplation and sound of the falls, recharged us.

Some falls are easily accessible and others more difficult (you need hiking shoes and to plan more than one hour). We reached Nunobiki Fall (the eighth fall, left photo above) 30 meters high and describes as one of the most beautiful falls. Chi va piano, va sano, va lontano, okay (lol)!

The Live of Shakuhachi

Back to the Ozunu villa (where we stay), the musician Toshimitsu Ishikawa introduces us to the sound and chords of the shakuhachi, the Japanese bamboo flute (above right photo: his portrait). A very poetic and exotic music that soothes the soul.

I only put you short excerpts, because the songs are long and I could not download them on this web page. I am thinking of making a film about our trip to Japan, with more complete sequences that I will download on my You Tube channel.

The Gourmet Dinner

Kaiseki

Have you ever dreamed of a Michelin starred chef doing a cooking demonstration at home just for you? At the amazing Sasayuri-Ann Terrace Villas, we had this gorgeous surprise with chef Kouzi Nagata, owner of the Manso restaurant in Nara!

Magic moment with a generous humble chef who masters the art of cutting (10 years of learning to cut the famous fish with thousands of pin bones) and beauty. Each dish is graphic and uncluttered. The flavors are delicate, with a subtle play on textures.

The chef wants to please you while sharing his knowledge. Collector of old blades, he also showed me and let me touch centuries-old swords that belonged to samurai.

The Room

What A Lovely Surprise

discovering my vast room! Nice volumes and light wood, with long windows and high ceilings, few items: the set has style (photos above). The interior decoration of this small palazzo of the sixteenth century, owned by the Bianconi family in Norcia, is both classic and contemporary.

A fullness feeling by opening windows in the early morning, the eyes focused over the tops of mountains, like floating islands among the clouds … beyond the traditional tiled roofs (photos 1 and 2). The day looks promising.

The bedding is spotless as soundproofing and bathroom. I particularly liked the minimal functional layout in the bathroom too. Before falling asleep, I had a look at the article of the black truffle from Norcia (the local specialty) in the Gazetta Seneca, edited by the hotel (photos below).

Italian Lifestyle

I go down for breakfast, unable to swallow anything. The night before, I ate a lot (too much!) at Ristorante Granaro del Monte. Dinner of black truffles.

The buffet is varied and nicely presented with local products (including the famous norcineria) and the added bonus of beautiful views to the countryside and mountains, and also to the small inner garden of the hotel.

I could spend hours in the beautiful library and different lounges with comfortable English clubs. The clear spaces are dotted with works of art and offer some privacy.

I don’t have enough time to test the spa or cooking classes. It will be for a next time! This 24 suites Relais et Chateaux, is a gem where you want to return for sure. And it is conveniently located in the historic center of Norcia.
