Poland: Safari Bison and Lunch @ Kurozweki Palace

Here is my last post about my weekend in the Świętokrzyski (Holy Cross) region, with a safari bizon in the Kurozweki estate ! Yes I know, I often have funny ideas ! So I went visiting some peaceful specimen of American bison, more than 80 animals (picture 1) ! Honestly, it’s not really my thing and apparently I ‘m not the only one, LOL (picture 2) ! But kids are fans ! I’ve never imagined there could be so many (super tough) mosquitoes in Poland! I go inside the palace (picture 3), where the tour begins with a subterranean maze and old foundations. Back in daylight, we head to the small family museum (picture 6). Our guide, the son of Earl Popiel is a great storyteller (picture 5). Each object, table and photo is related to anecdotes or dramas and the family saga often flirts with the history (the one we learnt at school). Pictures 7 & 4: the long ballroom and the intimate chapel. Pictures 8, 9 & 10: our beautiful table and delicious lunch of Polish traditional cuisine. And guess what we ate?

Pologne: Safari et déjeuner au Palais Kurozweki

Suite et fin de mon weekend dans la région Świętokrzyski (Sainte Croix), par un “safari” dans le domaine du Palais Kurozweki! Oui je sais, j’ai souvent de drôles d’idées! Et me voilà partie à la découverte de quelques spécimen paisibles du bison d’Amérique, soit plus de 80 têtes! Bon, les bisons, c’est pas vraiment mon truc (photo 1) et je ne suis pas la seule apparemment, LOL (photo 2)! Mais les enfants en sont fans! Je n’imaginais pas qu’il pouvait y avoir autant de moustiques (super coriaces) en Pologne. Je file à l’intérieur du palais (photo 3), où la visite commence par les souterrains, dédales de galeries et fondations anciennes. De retour en lumière du jour, nous nous dirigeons vers le petit musée familial (photo 6). Notre guide, le fils du Comte Popiel est un conteur né, intarissable, sur chaque objet, tableau et photo (photo 5). Entre anecdotes désuètes et drames, la saga familiale flirte souvent avec la grande histoire. Photo 7 & 4 : la longue salle de balle et l’intimiste chapelle (photo 4). Photos 8, 9 & 10 : notre superbe table et excellent déjeuner de cuisine traditionnelle polonaise. 11 : maison traditionnelle dans le domaine.

1. BASENY MINERALNE

Let’s go to Solec-Zdroj, a spa area in the Świętokrzyskie (Holy Cross), an hour’s drive from Krakow, to discover the brand new complex, Baseny Mineralne (photos 1, 2, 3 & 4). Immaculate pools in a super modern infrastructure, are filled with a “thermal mineral water” solankowo-sulfide rich, with therapeutic effects. This spring water contains the highest concentration of sulfur in the world: “The biogenic sulfur is an integral part of the human body” (Baseny Mineralne). And honestly I really regret not having had the time to follow there a therapeutic treatment for several days. Maybe next time …

2. MALINOWY ZDROJ HOTEL MEDICAL SPA ****

At the Malinowy Zdroj hotel Medical Spa **** in the countryside , I tested a bath with the famous water rich of solankowo-sulfide ( photos below ) . Early wake up, I head in a bathrobe (like all of the curists) to the therapy center of the hotel. There’s no glam , were are in a medical spa . And it smells strong sulfur. A nurse (I guess) leads me to a single cabin which immediately recalled me the pools for “real” swimmers ( lol! ). The capacity and bath time are automatically set. After 15-20 minutes , the tub is empty ( photos 1 & 2) . The water is warm which is very nice . And I took the opportunity to make a few snapshots : all indications are in Polish only ( lol! ) . Once the care is complete, you should not take a shower to maximize the benefits of the water. The skin is very soft and the muscles relaxed . The hotel has also developed a cosmetics line based on the thermal mineral water. In my next post , follow my wellness weekend in a luxury spa in Kielce …
