Japon: Shangri-La Tokyo

Tea time & petits déjeuners

Après quelques jours à Hakone, nous sommes de retour à Tokyo en milieu d’après-midi. C’est bientôt la fin de cet excitant voyage itinérant au Japon. Nous allons passer nos deux dernières nuits au Shangri-La Tokyo.

Notre chambre, une Horizon Club Deluxe est située dans les étages les plus hauts de l’hôtel. Et dans l’ascenceur, j’admire l’impressionnant lustre (photo ci-dessus), dont les cristaux viennent de République Tchèque. Les lustres sont la signature des Shangri-La.

Nous avons accès à l’Horizon Club Lounge qui offre, entre autres, un service de conciergerie. Ainsi qu’un très agréable lounge privé, avec une vue panoramique sur Tokyo, où nous prendrons nos collations et petits déjeuners au calme.

Dès que nous sommes entrées dans notre chambre, j’ai été happée par le vue, tout comme dans notre précédent hôtel, le Capitol Hotel Tokyu. Sur la méridienne, face à la jungle urbaine : se perdre en contemplation et fleurter avec les rooftops des longilignes buildings. J’aime Tokyo.

Aujourd’hui, pas le temps de buller : nous nous préparons rapidement, avant de traverser la ville, pour notre tour de Tokyo en hélicoptère (article à venir). La seconde fois de ma vie que je monterai en hélicoptère! 

Nous découvrirons vraiment notre spacieuse et très confortable chambre à notre retour, dont voici ci-dessous, quelques photos. Ici aussi, difficile le matin, de s’extraire du lit et quitter la chambre (lol).

Notre agenda à Tokyo est tellement chargé (article à venir) que je n’ai pas eu le temps de nager dans la belle piscine de l’hôtel au 29ième étage, ni même de tester le CHI The Spa!

Heureusement, nous avons pris le temps de découvrir la cuisine raffinée du chef Takehiko Yoshida au Nadaman, le restaurant de spécialités japonaises au 28ième étage du Shangri-La. Nous avons choisi le menu Celebration Kaiseki (composé avec des ingrédients de saison) aussi beau visuellement que délicieux en bouche (photos ci-dessous)!

La cuisine japonaise, c’est aussi des compositions avec différentes textures d’aliments (comme la texture gélatineuse, assez surprenante). Une partie de plats du menu, en photos ci-dessous. Photo ci-dessus :The Lobby Lounge, le bar du Shangri-La.

France, Arcs 2000: Hotel Taj-I Mah

A Room With A View

The Pleasure of Mountain

Long live the skiing season! Few years ago, I’d never imagined I could like the mountain and ski as much! I am back in the French Alps, for the inauguration of the Taj-I Mah, the first 5-star hotel of Les Arcs 2000 at the foot of the slopes.     

Blue sky, snowy peaks bathed in bright light. It’s pretty difficult to leave my terrace. The air is invigorating with hypnotic view. The comfortable room is well soundproofed, a cocoon with impeccable bedding. The interior design reminds me the rooms of the Koh-I Nor in more intimate version (the same owners).  

The bathroom with its deep large bath, opens onto the bedroom and mountain view (a large sliding glass door allows to separate the two spaces, picture left above). I like the separate toilet in the entrance of the room.

  

Lunch at L’Atelier d’Eric

Between Activities,

I sit down at one of the hotel’s outside terraces (great!). Picture above: the long terrace of the lounge, where I am rocked by the warm rays of the sun. It quickly becomes really complicated to leave (LOL)! Except for discovering the menu of L’Atelier d’Eric, one of the two restaurants of the Taj-I Mah, under the leadership of the Chef Eric Samson.

I had lunch there a few times (pictures below): tasty simple inventive cuisine nicely presented. Excellent tuna prepared with scallops. I love  the Valrhona chocolate with pear dessert (picture below), a treat!

A Massage at The Spa

The Swimming Pool and Jacuzzi

have a panoramic view to the slopes and the peaks! The last two days, I made a long stop at the Cinq Mondes and Carita spa: 400 m2 including a sauna, hammam, jacuzzi, salt wall, showers, relaxation area and treatment rooms. The icing on the cake is the Cinq Mondes facial massage (inspired by Shiatsu) that relaxed my tensions in the neck and shoulders.

Voluptuous Dessert

The second evening, I have a dinner with a journalist friend at the Diamant Noir, the gourmet restaurant of the twice starred Chef Eric Samson. We start with an apetizer of raw tuna with egg yolk and cream. 

I don’t take any first meal. While reading the menu, I recognize one of the Koh-I Nor’s first meal I really recommend you: Grilled foie gras acidulated with the passion fruits and Savoy wine, Mango and Litchi. A surprising extremely fine dish! So delicious!

I choose the Supreme of Farm Poultry filled with foie gras, Périgueux sauce and potatoes. Really good and not greasy. When the dessert The Chocolate Caraïbe at 66% in Different Textures arrives, I capsize! It looks like a haute couture piece and tastes fantastic! Gorgeous!

  

The Ski

Finally!

Energic wake-up to the aurora and meditation on the empty icy main terrace of the hotel. I am happy, I will ski from 9 am to 11. I haven’t had the opportunity to discover the Paradiski ski area (which includes Les Arcs) yet. The previous days, I visited as a pedestrian a bit of the Arcs 2000 (altitude 2100 meters) and 1800

I couldn’t leave without making at least a morning of skiing! After being equipped at the ski shop of the hotel (picture below), I follow the ski instructor on slopes. First, we head to Les Arcs 1950 and cross the village in ski. Then we take the chairlift to the Col de la Chal (altitude 2600 meters). From where we ski to the Arc 2000 surrounded in a beautiful panorama. To be continued…

Dinner at the Design Center Nini Andrade Silva  

Arrival in Funchal: just down from the Ferry (from Porto Santo), I am facing the entrance of the Design Centre Nini Andrade Silva, located at the end of the dock (photo 1 of the photo-montage above). I’d visited the building with the interior designer Nini Andrade Silva, during the work. What a surprise to now discover the different spaces with her iconic design furnitures and items! Awesome!

I really like the outdoor café (first photo of the post and photo below) and the black and white graphic restaurant with a 360 degree view, of the ocean and Funchal (photo-montage above). The atmosphere is really nice with a tasty cuisine and friendly team. My only downside: I look like a scarecrow after my long outdoors day in Porto Santo, plus the ferry over for more than two hours (lol)!

And my camera has no more battery, bad! Fortunately I Bob (Marley) saved me! There is live music in one of the spaces (videos below) and I feel more relaxed. An island without Bob is no longer an island, right?

Oops, It’s Public Holiday!

Slow wake-up and breakfast at the Meliá Madeira Mare. I planned checking out cool shops of local designers for you (and me!). But everything is closed. So I comfortably lay near the swimming pool facing the ocean. Then I will have a lunch at The Vine and a guided tour of the historical center of Funchal.

The Return

I go to The Vine, another hotel designed by Nini Andrade Silva. I’ll end up to know all of them at least in Portugal (lol)! During the Festival do Atlantico, I had dinner at the excellent Uva Restaurant & Wine Bar (with a French chef) and then we watched the beautiful fireworks on the terrace.

Once more, the restaurant kept its promises. Great lunch! The food looks like paintings! Everything is delicious and the service is impeccable. I really enjoy the soothing views of the city and harbor. It feels good. The Vine and the Design Centre Nini Andrade Silva, are my two favorite places in Funchal!

More and Less Two Hours

before leaving the city to the Cristiano Ronaldo airport. So I joined one of the guides of History Tellers (an initiative of the University of Madeira Students’ Union (AAUMa). They offer circuits through the history of Madeira”. In addition to learn about Madeira, you will help students struggling financially.

I’ve already visited the historical center. But I have fun to rediscover it with a “documented eye”. Last time, I didn’t notice some doors and facades cafés in (or near) Santa Maria street, like the ones below. Pictured right: the famous Rainha do Fado,Amália Rodrigues.
