Onda da Nazaré, the biggest wave in the world !

And extreme surf ! Yes, Nazaré ! Do you remember in 2011 the feat of the Hawaiian Garrett McNamara who surfed a wave of 23.77 meters high ? The biggest wave ever surfed … Until he established a new world record in January 2013 and this time with a wave of more than 30 meters! Welcome to Nazaré, Portugal … 1h30 drive north of Lisbon.

Stunning panorama of Praia do Norte (North Beach) from the old lighthouse. The wind is cold, mild euphoria, I do not feel the cold, warmed up by this amazing winter sun. Azure sky, incredible brightness ! Surf waves break a few meters below. No wall of water today, from time to time some powerful waves, Atlantic Ocean. I can spend hours and hours looking at the ocean, endless beach. And we head to the beach. No real path, the descent is steep, very steep . Large sandbar that stretches out of sight . I’m deafened by the noise of the wind and waves. Also surprised that despite a strong wind, the sand doesn’t fly unlike Guincho, another famous surf spot in Portugal. Poland: Safari Bison and Lunch @ Kurozweki Palace

Here is my last post about my weekend in the Świętokrzyski (Holy Cross) region, with a safari bizon in the Kurozweki estate ! Yes I know, I often have funny ideas ! So I went visiting some peaceful specimen of American bison, more than 80 animals (picture 1) ! Honestly, it’s not really my thing and apparently I ‘m not the only one, LOL (picture 2) ! But kids are fans ! I’ve never imagined there could be so many (super tough) mosquitoes in Poland! I go inside the palace (picture 3), where the tour begins with a subterranean maze and old foundations. Back in daylight, we head to the small family museum (picture 6). Our guide, the son of Earl Popiel is a great storyteller (picture 5). Each object, table and photo is related to anecdotes or dramas and the family saga often flirts with the history (the one we learnt at school). Pictures 7 & 4: the long ballroom and the intimate chapel. Pictures 8, 9 & 10: our beautiful table and delicious lunch of Polish traditional cuisine. And guess what we ate?

Italy, Piemonte: Sacred Mount Calvary of Domodossola

Awesome to stay in mountains during summer!

To be honest as a diver, I am definitely more sea than mountain. As I can’t stand the seaside summer crowds, I prefer to relax and recharge to the mountain. Where I love landscapes, semi-desert villages, hiking trails. Light, beautiful gardens and especially the feeling of serenity that calms my hyperactive temper.

During a recent short break in the Ossola valleys, in the Piemonte, I really had a big crush for the Sacred Mount Calvary‘s garden overlooking Domodossola (pictures below). This Christian sanctuary built in 1657, is part of the nine “Sacred Mountains of Piemonte and Lombardy“, registered in 2003 on the World Heritage List of UNESCO.

You can make retreats at the Sacred Mount Calvary. More modestly, I took a long walk between the kitchen garden and the rose garden and the areas near the ruins under the old trees (last picture). Always with the astonishing XXL view of the mountains and valley. And it made me euphoric!
