Park Inn: A Room Overlooking The Berliner Fernsehturm, The Berlin TV Tower

The view from my room at 24th floor

(picture above)! The two unique interests to book a room at Park Inn Berlin, are its location in the center of Alexanderplatz (or 5 minutes walk from the trendy Mitte, 1 minute from the Galleria food center, and 2 minutes of U ban – the subway and bus stops) and especially its incredible view of the Berliner Fernsehturm, the Berlin TV tower.

Inaugurated in 1970, it’s the tallest hotel of Germany (123 meters). But it’s also a “4 star” hotel-factory, really impersonal (1012 rooms and I do not even mention the reception hall and the breakfast restaurant)! And so “rationalist”: from the “automated” service at the reception desk to do your check in, to the room where every inch has been optimized at its maximum.

So you can easly have the impression of being in the airlock of a spaceship (without a futuristic design, no!), than in a hotel room. We could see an “airy” version of the philosophy of capsule hotel. Although there is no bathroom: a shower block which is separated from the toilet block, by a block-sink mirror in front of a wardrobe-minibar-safe block. Many blocks!

The double bed is comfortable and the all of decor is strictly rationalist (the most enthusiastic ones qualify it as “minimalist”), kind of Ikea furniture and not the most exciting selection of the catalog. For the same price, I recommend smaller hotels, with a warmer and more creative atmosphere, in less touristic neighborhoods. Especially if you stay several nights and/or if you travel lovers!

For a short stay of one night in Mitte, the Park Inn is an attractive option. It seems that the terrace of the restaurant at the 37th floor offers panoramic views of the city. I didn’t have time to check it.

DESTINATIONS

Castel Fragsburg: Fantastic Gourmet Restaurant

The road narrows into tight laces,

lined with vineyards, for your viewing pleasure! The restaurant’s charming Castel Fragsburg nestled atop a mountain, offers a panoramic on a bucolic landscape and the stonished Dolomites.

Simple, elegant and timeless, the atmosphere reminds me of the famous Dejeuner sur l’herbe of Renoir. I feel good, so I could spend hours on the terrace. With a good book under the shade of trees, lulled by a gentle breeze …

What choosing? A sparkling water followed by divine staters. Originality of tastes and textures and beautiful presentation. An unique mustard ice cream (picture 2). My plates look like paintings.

The presention is neat and airy,

with small proportions. I like the balance between solids and voids in a plate. The smiling staff is really professional, present without being intrusive. The main course is a succulent fish on a bed of black rice. Light and tasty.

More salty than sweet, I didn’t taste the desserts, but I like the concept of dark chocolate sticks with salty popcorn (picture 3). Very regressive!

I finish the meal with a great passion fruit tea (picture 4)! My gaze rests on a couch by the pool: now the farniente (or the “doing absolutely nothing” art) is calling me! Enjoy the break!

Many thanks for this beautiful invitation to Suedtirol and Lufthansa. And thanks to the chef Luis Haller and his great team too. As always these opinions are my own.

Schloss Hotel Korb: A Suite Decorated With Old

My spacious suite

is located in the central building of the Hotel Schloss Korb, originally an ancient castle (I’m not a huge fan of sleeping in castles). Upon entering, I immediately noticed a beautiful bouquet of purple orchids almost black, in the parlor bathed in sunlight and overlooking the rose garden (picture 4).

An old telephone, some beautiful books about South Tirol, crystal chandelier and old wood (pictures 2 and 4): like the feeling to break into scene of an Agatha Christie’s novel. Then I head to another room bathed in light: the bedroom, with two large windows opened onto a bucolic landscape of postcard…

The ubiquity of Dolomiti! I’m Charmed by the lovely bright atmosphere, the hangings, the bed (very comfortable, with German single duvets, I mean a single duvet for each one in a bridal bed! It has always struck me! Lol!). In contrast, the impeccable bathroom offerts space and comfort of today and I prefer.
