Owiny Sigoma Band: Your New Year Eve’s Groove

Remember few years ago, I ended the year meeting the crazy mythic Jazz band, Sun Ra in Philly (lol). So you think you’ll miss the groove at your new year’s party… My remedy : Owiny Sigoma Band, check Gilles Peterson site!  Here two singles I do really like : the excellent remix of their single “Nabed Nade Ei Piny Ka (Rework)” found on Utube and the famous “Odera Lwar“! When London meets Africa, we can’t dream better! As we say in French : CA DECHIRE (it rocks)! You can buy their music in iTunes. I took those pictures in the Owiny Sigoma Band’s second live I attended (thanks P!). I “had” to take in my camera to dance! Lol! So party animals, now you are ready to celebrate this new year eve!

Zara MacFarlane: The Awsome Jazzy Discovery

If you’re looking for a special gift for Chrismas : think of the Zara MacFarlane’s album.  One month ago, a friend invited me to an edgy live in a former nursery. Zara MacFarlane, a young jazz singer from London and her musicians played before the Owiny Sigoma Band (a coming up post). I discovered the album “Until Tomorrow“, the clear beautiful voice of Zara, her great presence on stage (one of my favourite songs is Captured). I do really like. Here two or three things I know about Zara (she told me). Zara writes her music and lyrics : “about my own experience“. Zara listens “lots of American jazz“, her influences : “Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Michael Jackson“. Zara describes her voice as “quite mellow” and her music as “laid  back, mystic and mysterious“. And when I asked Zara about fashion, she laughed : “Oh I’m terrible with fashion“. Awsome, because overlooked singers, often… yeah you know what I mean!  Many thanks to Zara and Peter!

Zara MacFarlane: la belle découverte jazzy

A deux jours de Noël, un joli cadeau à offrir : l’album de Zara MacFarlane. Il est des chanteuses dont on tombe sous le charme! Il y a un mois, un ami m’invite à un concert plus-underground-tu-meurs, dans une ancienne école d’infirmières. Zara MacFarlane, jeune chanteuse jazzy londonienne et ses musiciens font la première partie du concert d’Owiny Sigoma Band (post à venir). Je découvre en live l’album “Until Tomorrow“, la voix de Zara, son aisance, sa présence (un de mes morceaux préférés, Captured). J’aime. Voici deux ou trois choses que je sais de Zara (livrées par l’intéressée). Zara écrit sa musique et ses textes : “sur ma propre expérience“. Zara écoute “beaucoup de jazz américain“, ses influences : “Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Michael Jackson“. Zara qualifie sa voix de “quite mellow” (d’assez douce) et sa musique de “laid  back, mystique et mystérieuse“. Et Zara s’esclaffe lorsque je lui demande si elle est fashion : “Oh je suis très mauvaise en mode“. Tant mieux, parce que les chanteuses trop lookées, souvent… vous me comprenez!  Merci Zara et Peter!
