Hotel Lancaster celebrates Helmut Newton

When I was a kid, I discovered photography by a small exhibition in Paris, with pictures of Helmut Newton : it was a shock that changed my life! But this is another story… What the link between the Hôtel Lancaster, the famous Parisian palace hosted the mythical Marlene Dietrich and the bigger than life Helmut Newton? In 1976, in the Marlene Dietrich suite of the Lancaster, the fashion photographer shot for Hermès, the « Saddle » series. What a small world!

For the first French retrospective of the photographer in Grand Palais, from March 24th till June 17th, 2012, the small palace proposes an exclusive offer, for the duration of the exhibition, including:

– accommodation in one of the newly renovated rooms or suites, breakfast at La Table du Lancaster, two tickets for the exhibition “Helmut Newton” at the Grand Palais (every day except Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.), the booklet of the exhibition and late check out at 15:00 to availability. Price from 480 € per night in Dreamer’s double room. Wifi access is available and the hotel offers its customers a courtesy car from 7:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., 7 days / 7.

Pré-ado j’ai découvert la photo lors d’une petite expo, où il y avait des clichés d’Helmut Newton : ce fut un choc qui a transformé toute ma vie! Mais ça c’est une autre histoire… Quel rapport entre l’Hôtel Lancaster dont je vous avais présenté quelques suites, palace parisien où séjournait la mythique Marlene Dietrich et l’immense Helmut Newton? Justement en 1976 dans la suite Marlene Dietrich de l’Hôtel Lancaster, le photographe de mode réalise pour Hermès, une série de photos intitulée « Saddle » (« selle » en français). What a small world!

A l’occasion de la première rétrospective française du photographe, au Grand Palais du 24 mars au 17 juin 2012, le petit palace parisien propose une offre exclusive, valable durant toute la durée de l’exposition, comprenant :

– l’hébergement dans l’une des chambres ou suites récemment rénovées, le petit-déjeuner à La Table du Lancaster, 2 entrées pour l’exposition « Helmut Newton » au Grand Palais (tous les jours sauf le mardi, de 10h à 22h), le livret de l’exposition et un départ tardif à 15h00 en fonction des disponibilités. Prix à partir de 480€ la nuit en chambre double Dreamer’s. L’accès Internet en Wifi est offert et l’hôtel met à disposition de ses clients une voiture de courtoisie de 19h15 à 21h15, 7 jours/7.

Sonia Rykiel: the “Exhibition”, Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Paris

November the 19th: “THE” opening of Sonia Rykiel “Exhibition” at the Musee des Arts decoratifs in Paris, celebrating forty years of creation. Respect. In the first hall, I meet my old neighbour, the artist Hyppolite Romain who has made illustrations of Sonia Rykiel collections for years. Short break. In the next hall, a friend chats with Stephane Verdino, the trendy bags designer. And I focus on fantastic dresses I’d really like to wear. In the half-light, I stamp Ines de la Fressange’s feet. Oops sorry! I quickly make for the great pictures of Dominique Isserman. Lavish presentation of black and white big prints put against the black walls and on the black floor. Superb portraits of Sonia Rykiel. And I hear a kind of a funny chat between two old gentlemen. Upset one of the two notices:

– There isn’t any man in those pictures!

– Because it’s for women!

– Ok but there might be a man, I mean a voyeur, between those ladies.

I smile: why not! And I look at the ab fab dress tribute to Sonia Rykiel and designed by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac met when I left the museum. No way to shoot the dress (low camera’s battery) to add it in this post. Dear Mrs Rykiel, thank you for your really feminine creations full of hapiness and impertinence. Rykiel forever!
