Hotel Lancaster celebrates Helmut Newton

When I was a kid, I discovered photography by a small exhibition in Paris, with pictures of Helmut Newton : it was a shock that changed my life! But this is another story… What the link between the Hôtel Lancaster, the famous Parisian palace hosted the mythical Marlene Dietrich and the bigger than life Helmut Newton? In 1976, in the Marlene Dietrich suite  of the Lancaster, the fashion photographer shot for Hermès, the « Saddle » series. What a small world!

For the first French retrospective of the photographer in Grand Palais, from March 24th till June 17th, 2012, the small palace proposes an exclusive offer, for the duration of the exhibition, including:

– accommodation in one of the newly renovated rooms or suites, breakfast at La Table du Lancaster, two tickets for the exhibition “Helmut Newton” at the Grand Palais (every day except Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.), the booklet of the exhibition and late check out at 15:00 to availability. Price from 480 € per night in Dreamer’s double room. Wifi access is available and the hotel offers its customers a courtesy car from 7:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., 7 days / 7.

You were not at the opening of the CCM’s collective exhibition in Brussels? Go to the “finissage” (a strange word for celebrating the last day of  the exhibition) next Saterday December 19. Now you know the principe: here my crushes! Nathalie Canivet (picture above and picture below) works by stuffing the concept of  protection and its lake. For Chrimas, why not making a gift with one of her “Doudous” (30×20x7cm, picture below)? Adriana Sotelo Ramirez, a photographer and Laida Aldaz Arrieta, a dancer, create together installations where time is stopped in a movement, in a kind of indefinite present. Here the coffee liquid is a  wool spider’s web. “Tejiendo conversaciones 2″. [email protected], [email protected]

Young Gallery, Brussels: Exhibition of Nick Brandt, “A Shadow Falls”

Rewind, November 10, 8 p.m.: arriving at the Conrad Hotel, surprise surprise, it’s crowded in front of the Young Gallery. My first opening in Brussels, course Nick Brandt is a star. Ok, I make my way through peolpe to get in the gallery: “Excuse me, are you a press officer?“. And I find myself in front of a press photographer’s camera of the opening. I cheese and catch my kind gallery officer: “Well, I’d like to make an interview of Nick Brandt, the photographer“, “Oh! He’s…mmmh around. He’s got a jacket with inscriptions on his back“. Good…”And what does he look like?“, “My height, not really tall“, “Thanks!“. Perplexed. An amused look at the moving crowd: how locating in half light an inscription on jacket’s back? Fantastic pictures (big crush on the elephants ones) and great gallery’s atmosphere: I quickly forget the interview for those snapshots! Enjoy!
