Portugal: Comporta, Miles of Pristine Beaches

Portugal-Comporta-6A-Photo MlleLeK-copyright 2013

Comporta is 1h-1h30 drive south of Lisbon,

in the region of Alto Alentejo. I need a breath of fresh air and to discover new places. Amazing light at the end of November which gilds kilometers of wild beaches, bordering a nature reserve (picture above).

Long walk on one of the deserted beaches, with just two or three fishermen whose giant fishing canes are planted in the sand (pictures 4 & 5). We blend in with the scenery. From time to time some ominous clouds. The bottom of the air is really cold, almost freezing when we reach the teak terrace of the restaurant, Ilha do Arroz. But there are infinite Ocean view, I can spend hours contemplating the horizon, sunset …

And some Portuguese tapas consisted of pasteis de bacalhau (cod fritters) with pimentos padrone (small green peppers grilled) : simple and delicious ! And our surprise guest : Cacao, the irresistible young dog of the owners (picture 6). Clap end when night falls, I am freezing in my parka. We take the road back to Lisbon. A great idea of an awesome beach walk for all of those who hate Sundays cocooning (LOL) !

Marseille in 5 Hours: The Islands & Le Panier

Last stopover: 5 hours in Marseille

(South of France), well let’s say 3h-3h30 in the city of Marseille. After visiting the Chateau d’If, we took the wrong shuttle: instead of returning to the vieux port (the old harbor), we discovered other small islands off the coast of Marseille. Beautiful landscapes (pictures 1, 2 & 3), a picturesque marina cove, the feeling of being so far away, the slowness.

Back to the Vieux Port (picture 4, the old harbour), I head to Le Panier, a famous heritage district in the old Marseille (picture 5). Getting lost in the quiet streets, which many are under construction. I’d love to make a full turn before lounging on the terrace of a cafe, but  we must return to the path of the ferry. Tram, bus and 15-20 minutes walk to the dock! Definitely too long and not really glam (lol)!

Costa Neo Romantica: Cruise in Mediterranean

Do you remember “The Love Boat”?

Well well, I tested for you… and guess what, I really enjoyed it, as crazy as it sounds! I would never (ever) have imagined a 5-day cruise in the Mediterranean on a boat with over a thousand people! You know, one of these floating-white-monsters-with-dozens-of-floors.

The trip started early morning: flight to Milan, then bus to Navona (I didn’t see anything of the city) and I obediently board the Neo Costa Romantica ship of the Costa fleet. After nearly a day of transportation and a long time of mandatory safety (including all of us, crew and customers), I finally relax on the desert deck pools. Yes finally I realize I’m on the water, on the top of the boat and coasts away, exciting!

And here is the big egg in wicker (photo above) where far from everything and everyone, I could admire the postcard beautiful sunsets during all the cruise! Cia-cia-ciao bellissima Italia, domani sarà (tomorrow, it’s)… To be continued…
