Biarritz, France: The Final of Roxy Pro 2012

Today the action takes place in the Grande Plage:

I juggle between wet sand and the terrace of the city casino, to take some snapshots of the final of the 7th Edition of the Roxy Pro Biarritz 2012 and penultimate stop of the ASP Women’s World Surfing Championship 2012. Beach side, icy wind and threatening sky this morning, I am freezing cold: the girls are brave!

The weather changes

around 1-2 p.m. and I decide to follow the rest of the competition at the casino terrace, comfortably nestled in a puff, with a panoramic view of the final. The slender Stephanie Gilmore wins the Roxy Pro 2012 and a 5th world title: congrats! After few “lay days”,

days without waves: waves are back @ the côte des Basques for the seventh edition of the Roxy Pro. Under a blazing sun and with Justice’s music in the background, finally I can watch and enjoy the world’s best surfers at work (last photo)!

Short break for a quick shopping tour @ the Boardriders Campus 162,

the new flagship of Roxy, Quiksilver and DC in Saint Jean de Luz (picture 3). Really nice cafe with huge photos and the ecofriendly offices of the company on stilts scattered in the greenery! Back to the Côte des Basques, the trials continue, while in late afternoon the sky became more and more threatening. Too bad for the outdoors concerts @ the Plage du Vieux Port tonight. We’ll see…
