Brussels: Ryuichi Sakamoto Trio Live @ Bozar, Awsome!

I’ve just come back from the live of Ryuichi Sakamoto Trio @ Palais des Beaux Arts, Brussels : HUGE ! A fantastic narrative music, I didn’t pay attention how long was the live, between a life and a minute… But enough for me, to watch all frames of my next movie (lol!).  Three calls, four standing ovations, non-stop rounds of applause and lots of emotion. Never seen as much as people @ night in Brussels. What a pity I didn’t bring my camera! The heteroclite swarm of human being in the large halls of BOZAR, amazing! Never seen as much Japanese people in Brussels too! I didn’t really know the music of this Oscar winner composer and pianist,  Ryuchi Sakamoto. Maybe a bit of the soundrack of The Last Emperor (or Furyo never ever watched, I really have to go more often to the cinematèque). When it started playing the first notes of Furyo’s soundrack, the audience got crazy! Wow! I’ve always associated the name of Ryuichi Sakamoto to David Bowie, same hair cut now (lol)! And after tonight live, I should add both of them are amazingly gifted! HUGE! There were all ages in the audience, even  some children (wise parents) : after the third calls, a Japanese granny asked and instisted for a track ! He played her track and with lots of simplicity, the artist signed her autographs on stage. I also really enjoyed his two fantastic musicians : Jaques Morelenbaum, the awsome cellist (I’ve noticed tonight how present was cello in my film culture) and Judy Kang, the great violonist. It was absolutely fantastic! Beauty is timeless. Thanks to Ryuchi Sakamoti Trio and BOZAR MUSIC for its eclectic music selection! What a week, starting with Barthélémy Toguo @ La Verrière Hermès,  it was my “blockbusters” cultural events week! Next : a blast with the great “Drive“, with Ryan Goslin (some says he’s the new Steve McQueen, do you think so?).

Hermès, Brussels: The Opening of Barthelemy Toguo’s Exhibition, “The Well Water”

Few things I know about Barthélémy Toguo… The colorful barrels represent his childhood : “when I was a kid, I used to bring water at home, it was hard. I paint barrels with colors to bring fun“. The scales with iron nails, on the walls, or the ones painted (pictures below) : “Each scale representes a lifelong journey“. Some ladders have more rungs and iron nails… The African proverbs that pursue “universality“, selected excerpts : “Heart is not a knee that we can bend”, “Say yes won’t stop the one who refuses to refuse”… Brillant, as those draws showing “what we have in head” and  “this wall was empty“. The entire series represent fifty draws. Me : “I know I ‘ve recently seen some of your artwork. I can’t remember where…” Amused he anwsers me : “At the Biennale de Lyon, coffins…

Me : “Yes! Of course, near the entrance! I knew your name reminded me things!”. I won’t discribe you the audience around, looking at me as if I was a poor E.T. lost in the middle of nowhere! I’ve always wanted to understand why some grown-up people need to adore (like teenagers) an artist, a politician, a model, guru, or everything-supposed-to-be-a- human-being, granted of a talent and/or a charism. And for sure Barthélémy Toguo’s got the both, talent and charisma, famous artist of the contemporary art scene. But happy poor minded like me,  who never reads a line about the artist of the exhibition he watches. I watch, it’s the principe of an exhibition, isn’t it? And if I enjoy it, I read or chat with the artist. And I won’t show you the “Shower life” happening too. When everybody was shooting like mad the performance in the great space of La Verrière, in the Hermès shop. I believe that the first interest of a performance is to be present and attend the live, not to be watched in streaming. A meteor meeting with the univers of a prolix artist, his artwork, my vision, your curiosity… Enjoy!

Infomations : La Verrière, Hermès, 50 boulevard de waterloo, Bruxelles 1000, Phone : + 32 (0)2 511 20 62. Exhibition from Novembre 4th till December 17th 2011, open from monday to saterday, from 11 a.m. till 6 p.m.

Brussels: The Bordeaux Vintage Apero @ the Penates

Xtra fresh, yesterday night celebrates my coming back to Brussels nightlife! I went to the Apéros Vintage de Bordeaux (the Bordeaux Vintage Apero) @ Les Pénates, a bar near Place Flagey. Honestly I’m not the perfect audience,  I do not drink any alcohol. For me, Merlot and Cabernet are associated with the beauty label, Caudalie and I assume it! I love beauty, fashion… sorry I’m not a gourmet, I will do better! But curious, I’ve tested the Crémant de Bordeaux de Jaillance, a rosé full of bubbles (picture 2)! Well, it’s a lovely occasion to discover different wines of Bordeaux in Brussels trendy bars, at reasonnable prices. You can meet many people (some famous, some not), enjoying eclectic mixes of DJs Alexandra Vassen (picture 1) and Eva Peel.

Next : October 26 @ Bar du Matin, Chaussée d’Alsemberg 172, 1190 Forest. Infos : http://bordeaux-coups-de-coeur.be/nl/ and facebook/VinsdeBordeaux
